Ukti, when translated from sanskrit, means “speech”. Article 19 of our constitution grants every individual the freedom to express their opinions, thoughts and views without fear. It is one of the pall-bearers of any democracy. But in the current scenario, are we truly being able to exercise that right? Are we truly fearless while expressing our ideas? Journalists and even normal citizens are being arrested or killed, people are being tracked down on social media for having a negative opinion about the government, anyone who doesn’t agree with the current government is being termed as “anti-national”, anyone who doesn’t fall on the side of the majoritarian view is being charged with sedition. Our piece attempts to be a mirror to the fast unraveling of our democracy, which was earned with so much sacrifice.
